Snow Surf Landscape
I did the design for the Silverton Splitfest poster, for the fourth year. With this painting I moved Kendall Mountain, showing the Wylie Couloir from this vantage, into line with the iconic Silverton Train, that has run through the San Juan Mountains and been a testament to human endurance in the Alpine for over 100 years. With an eye to one of my most beloved artistic heroes, Albert Bierstadt, this painting is an homage to that great adventurer and painter/image maker, of the American West. Not simply a painter of viewpoints he was a composer and orchestrator of fantastic visions. The reason I appreciate him most among other wonderful painters of the genre is that on display, alongside his brilliant and flawless facility, was a free and active imagination.
